Useful Information
1. Outdoor Learning on a Working Farm
Our homeschool pod takes place outdoors on an active farm, offering children a hands-on learning experience with farm animals, gardening, and crafts. Students will be exploring nature, planting and harvesting crops, feeding animals, and engaging in creative projects.
What to Expect:
-
Dirt, mud, and mess! Children will be working with soil, plants, and animals, so expect them to come home a little dirty—but full of new experiences.
-
Weather-appropriate clothing is essential. Dress your child in closed-toe shoes, layered clothing, and sun protection (hats, sunscreen, etc.).
-
Send a spare set of clothing in case of spills, mud, or water play.
2. Potty Training Requirement
All children must be fully potty trained to attend. We do not have the resources to assist with diapering or toilet training.
3. Small Class Sizes for a Personalized Experience
We maintain an 8:1 student-to-teacher ratio to ensure each child receives individualized attention and a supportive learning environment.
4. Cooking & Food Policy
One of our favorite activities is learning to cook delicious snacks and meals together! However, to ensure children have enough nourishment throughout the day:
-
Students must bring their own lunches and snacks each day.
-
While we’ll enjoy making small treats together, these are meant to enhance learning, not replace a full meal.
-
Please pack nutritious, ready-to-eat foods that will keep your child energized and ready to learn.
5. Food Allergies
-
As of now, we do not have any food allergies among our students.
-
If a child with allergies joins our pod, we will immediately notify all families and adjust our food policies to ensure safety.
-
If your child has any dietary restrictions, please inform us before their first day.
6. Hydration & Water Bottles
-
Each child must bring a refillable water bottle every day.
-
Our home is equipped with a Reverse Osmosis filtration system, ensuring access to clean, purified drinking water.
-
We will keep water bottles refilled throughout the day to encourage hydration.
7. Understanding the Farm-to-Table Process
Our farm raises some animals for meat consumption, and we believe in teaching children where their food comes from in a respectful and age-appropriate way. We encourage parents to have discussions at home before joining the pod, so children are prepared for these conversations.
-
Our approach is to discuss this topic sensitively, helping children understand:
-
How our homestead animals are raised with love and care.
-
Why we express gratitude for the food they provide.
-
The importance of treating all animals with respect and kindness throughout their lives.
-
How the processing is handled as humanely as possible.
-
We will never force a conversation that a child is not ready for, but we will provide thoughtful and honest answers in a way that aligns with our values of responsibility, sustainability, and gratitude. If you have any concerns about this topic, please reach out to discuss how we can best support your family.
Safety Guidelines
1. Health & Wellness
-
Children showing signs of illness (fever, vomiting, persistent cough, rash, or contagious conditions) must stay home until symptom-free for 24 hours.
-
Parents must notify the pod if their child tests positive for a contagious illness.
-
Handwashing will be encouraged before meals, after using the restroom, and after outdoor play.
-
First-aid supplies are available on-site for minor injuries. Parents will be notified of any incidents requiring attention.
2. Supervision & Behavior
-
Children must remain within designated areas at all times.
-
Positive behavior is encouraged through gentle redirection and clear expectations.
-
Bullying, aggressive behavior, or repeated disruptions will result in a discussion with parents.
-
If a child consistently struggles with boundaries or behavior, we will work with the parents to create a plan that ensures a positive experience for all.
3. Emergency Procedures
-
Parents must provide up-to-date emergency contact information and notify the pod of any changes.
-
In the event of a medical emergency, we will contact the parent/guardian immediately. If necessary, 911 will be called first, then parents will be notified.
-
In case of fire or natural disaster, children will be guided to a safe area and parents will be notified as soon as possible.
-
If an unauthorized person attempts to pick up a child, they will not be released until confirmation is received from a parent/guardian.
4. Pick-Up & Drop-Off
-
Parents must sign in and out each day (if required).
-
Children will only be released to parents/guardians or pre-approved adults listed on the emergency contact form.
-
Late pick-ups should be communicated in advance when possible. A late fee may apply if pick-up is consistently delayed.
5. Outdoor & Activity Safety
-
Children must wear weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes for outdoor learning and play.
-
Gardening and cooking activities will be closely supervised. Children will use age-appropriate tools.
-
Water bottles must be brought to each session to ensure hydration.
-
Parents should notify staff of any allergies, medical conditions, or dietary restrictions in advance.
6. Personal Belongings & Curriculum
-
Each child is responsible for their own curriculum, books, and supplies during independent study time.
-
Electronics are not permitted during pod hours unless explicitly needed for educational purposes. If needed, the electronic device must be used in our indoor independent study room away from other students.
-
Valuables and personal toys should be left at home to prevent loss or distraction.
7. Parent Communication & Involvement
-
Parents will be notified of any incidents, behavior concerns, or schedule changes via email or text.
-
We encourage open communication! Parents can schedule a time to discuss any concerns.
-
If a parent wishes to observe or volunteer, arrangements must be made in advance.
8. Severe Weather & Closure Policy
-
If severe weather conditions (storms, extreme heat, wildfires, etc.) pose a risk, the pod may close for the day. Parents will be notified as soon as possible.
-
Refunds or make-up days are not guaranteed but will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

FAQ
-
Do you offer sibling discounts? No sibling discounts at this time.
-
What happens in bad weather? We continue outdoor learning with appropriate gear, but we also have sheltered areas where activities can take place. On days with extreme weather (heavy rain, high winds, extreme heat), we shift to indoor activities, including hands-on projects, educational games, cooking lessons, and independent study time.
-
Is this a drop-off program?Yes, parents may drop off their children, but they are welcome to stay and observe.
-
Do you provide lunch or snacks? No, please send a packed lunch and snacks with your child. While we will have food available from our cooking class, we will never force a child to eat something they do not like or do not want to try. Because of this, we require parents to send students with lunch and snacks they know they will eat and enjoy to ensure they have full bellies and are ready to learn and engage.
-
What if my child is sick? Please keep your child home if they have a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, persistent cough, or any other contagious symptoms. Children must be symptom-free for at least 24 hours before returning to the pod.
-
Can my child join mid-year?Yes! We accept rolling admissions based on availability. Please reach out to check for open spots.
